In an emergency you may need to rely on your own resources for several days. Building an emergency kit ensures you have all the essentials you need to stay safe and comfortable.

Many of the things you need are everyday items you may already have.

 

What to include

Your emergency kit should have enough supplies to last for at least seven days. You might also be able to share resources with neighbours.

 

Key items: 

🧴 Water (at least 9 litres per person per day)
🍱 Food – ideally enough to last your family for 7 days
👶 Baby food and supplies
🐕 Pet food
🩹 First aid supplies
💊 Medications and toiletries
📻 Battery-powered or wind-up radio
🔦 Torch and extra batteries
🧣 Warm clothing and blankets
♨️ Barbecue or camping stove and gas
🎒 Grab Bag
🚽 Emergency toilet
